![]() ![]() To fix a few small cracks or nail holes, you could pay as little as 250, but to repair large holes, water damage, or a plaster ceiling, expect to pay up to 1,200. If the repair is minor, you may be able to complete it yourself for just a few dollars. If you use lime putty from the start, mix up the set coat with play sand, or kiln dried sand 50/50. The cost of plaster repair is typically around 750 with a general range between 500 and 1,000. just leave the seconds slightly back from the finished edge. Plaster Magic duplicates the properties of older plaster ensuring the repair of holes. You can then cover the hole in one of two ways. The tools needed for plaster repair are much the same as those needed for drywall repair: a screw gun or cordless drill 6-in. It is specially formulated for fixing old horse hair plaster on wood lath. If there’s no stud to anchor a lath end, slip a piece of lath into the cavity and screw it to the back of the existing ones, parallel with the studs. Use drywall screws, and always drill pilot holes to avoid splitting the wood. Small holes and minor damage to lath and plaster walls is usually simple to repair. Recently, I got a quote from a contractor who is willing to take care of all of the walls and ceilings for approximately 7000. Now you can simply use either the backing plaster, or sharp sand and putty to put the firsts/scratch coat on.when you scratch it, do it at 45 degrees to the lathes, otherwise you might end up cutting through and loosing the keys on the back. Once the edge of the hole is sound, clean up the laths, brush then over to get rid of the dust, then damp them down with water. Use a sharp stanley knife to smooth off the edges of the holes you counterbored. use a spade/flat bit around the eges, and make some counterbores in line with the laths, then use stainless screws, and some large flat washers to screw back the existing plaster to the laths and give it back some strength. If the rest of the wall is still quite sound, and not falling off (if it's a little loose you can still get away with it).
